What
Type of Instrument?
Questions to
ask:
- Is it a
piano or an organ? -- If it is an organ, measure the height from
top to bottom in inches. Over 40 inches high, you have a Console,
under 40 inches, you have a Spinet.
- If it is
a piano, is it flat, standing on three feet? If so, it's a grand,
and to see what type of Grand, you measure
the length from front to back in feet. If it can stand up against
a wall, then it's probably an Upright (or
vertical) piano. If so, you measure the height from top to bottom
in inches.
- If it is
a piano, will it play itself? If so, it's a Player
Piano.

"It's
just big and heavy..." is the answer we often hear
when we ask our customers about the type of instrument
they have. And it's true, even the relatively small
spinet piano or organ is "big and heavy,"
especially to the inexperienced mover. For the professional
mover, the logistics of size and shape are very important
factors to consider. Even though they all seem "just
big and heavy," there are actually 14 different
types of pianos and organs.
